German carmaker BMW has introduced the world’s first car that can change color via a mobile app.
Color Changing Car Review:
The car was unveiled at the electronics show in Las Vegas last Friday, according to Reuters.
The concept car is called the BMW iX Flow and can transform the exterior of the car into a variety of gray and white tones using the electronic ink technology commonly found in electronic readers.
Official Report Says:
Stella Clark, a research engineer at BMW, said: “Colors can be changed using electronic ink technology. We took a material that was like a thick sheet of paper and our challenge was to put it on a 3D object like our car.
Transmission of controlled electrical messages via a mobile application will identify different colors on the surface of the component, resulting in a different color or design than the color of the car.
In the future, Clark said, it can be controlled by pressing a button on the car’s dashboard or by gestures.
According to BMW, no special power is needed to change the color of the car.
Clark said: “My favorite thing is that the color changes here and affects the reflection of sunlight. On a hot, sunny day like today, you can change the color white to reflect sunlight. On a cold day, you can absorb heat and turn it black.
However, the car shown at CES can only change color between gray and white. BMW says, however, that in the future, this technology will be able to change the color of the car’s exterior in several shades, among others.
